As a Prince's Trust volunteer mentor, I support new business leaders by providing coaching, guidance, expertise, and advice, helping them navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and make informed decisions. Through regular meetings and constructive feedback, I empower these budding leaders to build confidence, develop crucial skills, and achieve sustainable success in their businesses.
Liz is the kindest and most hardworking lady I have ever come across. I had the honour of her giving up her time to mentor me through the Prince’s Trust. Her guidance and support not only helped me grow my entertainment business but also grow my mindset. Liz managed to fit me in around her busy life and never once told me what to do, she only supported my decisions and gave me guidance throughout. The universe really gave me an angel. I can’t thank you enough Liz for the 3 years of support you gave me! Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!
Danni Cash, Dc2 Entertainment & Dance CompanyLiz has been very supportive, a good listener and provides good advice and guidance. She has kept me motivated and my confidence has grown.
Jessica King, Infused TreatsIn 2023, I adopted a beehive!
Bees are amazing, they play a vital role in sustainability by ensuring the pollination of crops and wild plants, fostering biodiversity, and promoting the health of ecosystems, all of which are vital for long-term environmental and agricultural sustainability.
Not only that, like successful business leaders, they excel at creating an effective and efficient organisational structure. They assign specialised roles and responsibilities to different members, collaborate efficiently, and make collective decisions that optimise the success of the entire hive, mirroring the strategic thinking and teamwork of effective business leadership.
I would count myself as a reader, but I struggle to find time to sit down and read.
When it comes to ‘management’ or ‘self-development’ books, I prefer to listen to these on Audible when I’m driving, or it would take several months per book!
I have showcased a few below which over the years I have found to be the ones I return to again and again...
Written back in the 1980s it still a go-to-book with sound principles of personal leadership. I use many of the concepts found in this book when working with clients especially the Important/Urgent matrix.
Written in 2002, it paints the picture of what happens with teams, and how they can fall into the trap of working as individuals rather than pulling together effectively. The principles are illustrated through a story/fable.
If you find the story interesting but would like to know how to apply the learnings, you can go on to become accredited in the antidote – The 5 Behaviours – which by the way I am! I am licensed to use assessments and materials with clients to help instill and effective culture.
Brene opened my eyes to the value of vulnerability and vulnerable leadership (which actually also feeds into Trust within the 5 behaviours as above).
Alternatively you can watch her various TED talks. I love to use the ‘Empathy’ video available on YouTube and share this with my clients to explain the difference with sympathy.
If ever I needed a book to demonstrate the value and benefits of our Leadership Boards®, then this is it!
It explains why we need diversity in decision making and begins with a tragic example of not having diversity… The CIA only ever recruited the crème de la crème. All very well, but far from diverse. And hence the threat bin Laden posed was not recognised until after the devastating consequences of 911. It’s not all doom and gloom though! And makes for very interesting reading.
I’m sure we all like to think of ourselves as open-minded, but I can confirm that reading this book made me squirm a little and reconsider my beliefs!
Some of the research examples are hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them to illustrate the author’s points.
