“I began working with Liz as part of my own personal learning and development when I changed roles, moving from Sales to being the Managing Director. I also joined a Leadership Board which is a great way of sense-checking the decisions you take within a business in a well-informed, non-emotional way. Liz introduced me to Insights Discovery psychometric profiling which gave me a really… well, ‘insightful’ understanding of myself; some points I was aware of but others less so. I realised it would be extremely useful for our leadership team, to understand themselves but also understand their colleagues and how they could work together in an efficient and effective way – that would not only benefit the individuals but would help them take control of initiatives and move the business forward.
Liz delivered two Leadership Development Workshops. The first one was mainly orientated around Insights Discovery. This helped us understand that each person is different and the way you interact amongst the team can be different depending on the personality type. It allows people to look at their colleagues in a different way, to give them an appreciation, not just of their work but of all the different working styles within an organisation and the benefits that this brings.
We then buddied up and each pair took away a challenge, an area of development that we’d identified during the workshop. The challenges were different: some were organisational, others were about interacting with individuals or being able to delegate more effectively. The challenges formed the focus for the second workshop, a month later: personal improvement and developments. This whole process has helped the leadership team work together more closely because they have a greater appreciation and a degree of empathy for an individual’s working style.
This, in turn, filters down through their teams because they understand how people want to be worked with. One of the big things we’ve taken away from this is that working against a personality type can be counterproductive for the whole business.
Leadership Development gives you and your team a different perspective. Understanding how you interact with colleagues, having an appreciation of their different working styles, is beneficial – especially when you’re looking at multi-departmental teams with crossfunctional operations. The leadership team work in a more collaborative way now; they have become more united as a conjoined team which, in turn, benefits the wider business.
