Success Story

“I joined the company when I was 19 without going to university, without having any sort of level of education in the area. I didn’t come from a leadership or management background and I felt that I needed something in terms of some support. To call on other people’s experience, rather than just relying on the relatively limited breadth of experience that I had myself. I wanted to broaden my horizons and open myself up to other opinions, other points of view and learn from other leaders.

I was looking at various mentoring or coaching options. There is so much choice, so many alternatives available out there. I was trying to find something that felt credible and that I felt I would get value from. I met Liz at a networking event, and we had a conversation about the benefits of being part of a Leadership Board® and this led me to attend one of her taster sessions. The fact that there is support from peers, and multiple people, rather than just one individual, that appealed to me and was the main driver in my decision to join.

Whenever I have brought a challenge to the board, there have always been useful insights. Sometimes at a very literal and procedural level, to keep you focussed and prompt you to seek professional advice in certain matters. And then sometimes it is just calling on the experience of number of other people with different backgrounds and experiences. Part of it is the reassurance and validation that the route you are travelling down is OK or that there
isn’t a one size fits all solution to every problem.

Being a member of the Leadership Board® has been useful, it has supported my selfconfidence and given me the opportunity to think about alternative options and consequences before taking action.

It’s difficult to quantify the value you get from being part of a Leadership Board®. For me the value I take and how I measure it, is how I feel after each session. Do I have greater clarity on the issue that I raised? Did I find the workshop insightful? Did it give me reason to think and change my perspective in a different way? Unless you step into it, you are never going to
know. If you are undecided a Leadership Board® is right for you, then give it a go. I think most people would achieve some value from it by taking part wholeheartedly. If you are prepared to put the effort in, you will get the return.”
